FAQ
How much does this cost?
For swimmers 14 and under, the entire 8 week season is $140 plus a $55 TCRA non-member fee = $195. Families that are TCRA members do not pay the $55 fee. Swimmers 15 and up are $85, no TCRA non-member fees for this age group.
*There is also a small processing fee added to the above amounts.
A team shirt is INCLUDED. You only need to provide your swimmer's shirt size.
Dolphins use the money to pay coaches' salaries, rent facilities, pay operating expenses, and purchase trophies, shirts, equipment, etc., for the team.
Refund Policy - We recognize that swimming is not for every child. Some younger swimmers are really not ready to participate in an organized swim team environment. In the event your child is deemed unsafe in the water, a full refund will be processed. After the 2nd week of practice, no refunds are issued, regardless of date of registration, or participation to that point. This includes separation due to voluntary withdrawal, injury, moving, suspension, etc.
My child cannot currently swim.
We want to support young swimmers being safe, learning all the strokes and being part of a team! We will work with you and your swimmer, but this is a competitive swim team, not swim lessons. In concert with League Rules, it is expected that a swimmer be water safe and capable of satisfactorily swimming the length of the pool by the end of the second week of May practice. We have a team of Coaches and Junior Coaches who are available to help your swimmer succeed.
What if my child doesn't know how to perform all of the strokes well?
The coaches will help assess your swimmers’ skill level and place them in an appropriate group. Our coaches are experienced and will work with your swimmer to improve his/her technique.
Where do the Timber Cove Dolphins practice?
We practice at Timber Cove neighborhood pool located at 1000 Shorewood Dr.
Will my child swim with others his/her own age?
Your child will practice with other swimmers of similar ability and age. Practice is broken into the following groups: 6 & under, 7 & 8, 9 & 10, 11&12, and 13 and up.
At competitive meets, your child will swim against his/her own age swimmers in accordance with these groups: 6 & under, 8 & under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18. Girls swim against girls, and boys swim against boys. Each event (IM, freestyle, etc.) may have multiple heats. To the best of our ability, swimmers are placed in heats where they swim against competition of similar skill levels.
Can my 7-year old swim with my 13-year old at practices?
We try to be flexible with practice schedules, but this is at the Coach's discretion and lane availability. The coach will decide how practice is ran and what is best for the team.
How often does my child have to practice?
Practices are held every weekday where swimmers receive instruction in the competitive swim strokes and will swim to build physical endurance. Technique and endurance are both needed to improve times. However, we know summer is a busy time of year, so we encourage you and your swimmer to attend as often as possible.
How do I find out if practice is canceled?
We will use the SwimTopia app for alerts and notifications. The coaching staff will decide whether a practice session is canceled. You should use your own judgment when determining whether your child should practice. We do not practice, or will delay practice, if there is lightning within 10 miles in the last 30 minutes, but we DO hold practice if there is rain and no lightning.
How long does the season last?
Generally, around 8 weeks. Practice sessions are held after school in late April until school is dismissed for the summer; then practices switch to mornings in May and June. Please refer to the “Practice Times’ tab on our website for more detailed information.
Meets on Saturdays
Meets are every Saturday generally beginning in late May through the end of June June. The CCSL Reserve and Championship meet weekend takes places after the 5 regular season meets, with the CCSL Champ Meet marking the end of our competitive season.
Will my child be required to attend swim meets?
No, but we are a competitive swim team and participation in meets is the reward for all those practice hours! The Champ Series meet has a requirement that swimmers participate in at least two of the five regular-season meets. So missing meets is something that should be avoided.
Can my child swim and still play other sports?
Yes! How much you decide to practice is your decision.
Does my child have to purchase and wear the team swimsuit?
While the team suit is optional, the team requires girls to wear one-piece swimsuits suitable for competition to all practices and meets. Boys are to wear jammer or brief style competitive suits, no board shorts. We encourage blue and black colors for team cohesion.
Who manages the Timber Cove Dolphins?
A board of directors consisting of swimmers' parents manages the team, administration of the team, and all of the work and promotion involved. The board also hires the team's coaches. The board consists of volunteers who are voted in for the current season at the conclusion of the previous season.
What is CCSL?
The Clear Creek Swim League, Inc. (CCSL) is a non-profit organization formed in 1964 for the purpose of sponsoring competitive and developmental swimming events and activities in and between the community swimming pools in the Clear Creek and surrounding areas of Texas. The Timber Cove Dolphins are members of the CCSL and are governed by its rules and regulations.
